Sulphur to hold 9/11 Memorial Walk and Flag Presentation on Sept. 7 | Events
The following is a news release from the City of Sulphur:
The 9/11 Memorial Walk and Flag Presentation will be held September 7 in Sulphur. The walk will begin at 8:45 a.m. at Sulphur City Hall, located at 101 N. Huntington Street and proceed south on Huntington Street to Heritage Square. City officials, Boy and Girl Scouts, citizens, and members of our Armed Forces are scheduled to participate in the walk.
At 9 a.m., the Scouts will present the flag to the Honor Guard, consisting of members of the Sulphur Fire and Police Departments and the Carlyss Fire Department.
John Bridges will serve as emcee and will be joined by Melonie Himel, who will perform "God Bless America." Genesis Jonas of Girl Scout Troop 104 will lead the Pledge of Allegiance, and the invocation will be given by Reverend Jerry Thompson of Cornerstone Christian Fellowship Church and Chaplain Captain of the 1190th Transportation Brigade US Army Reserves.
Lacy Levine will perform the national anthem. Guest speakers at the event will be Mayor Chris Duncan, Chief of Police Lewis Coats, Chief James Stanley of the Carlyss Fire Department.
Dewayne and Jody Barrilleaux will perform "God Bless the USA," and the closing prayer will be led by Chaplain Ed Holmes of the Sulphur Armed Forces Committee. Secretary of State Tom Schedler will be the special guest speaker.
“This event has become an integral part of the Stars and Stripes in the Park Classic Car Show and a memorial to those lives lost on 9/11,” said Duncan.
